OECD horizon scan

OECD - Eye looking

A horizontal scan is an international literature study. The scan, which may be downloaded on this page, is based on a variety of sources, e.g. the latest expert accounts, international think tanks, technological visions and international, national rapports, strategies and action plans.

The horizontal scan was drawn up by the OECD International Futures Programme Unit commissioned by – and with assistance from – The Danish Agency for Science Technology and Innovation.

The purpose of the scan was to obtain an external, international and literature based suggestion for important development tendencies and societal challenges, which may be included in the considerations about the future strategic research areas.

OECD´s horizontal scan has not been restricted to certain areas and sectors. On the contrary, it has examined important developments created by the development in society, trade and industry as a whole. The scan resulted in 125 proposals, which have been focused on in the examined sources. Each proposal has been condensed in a fact sheet briefly describing the proposal and its relevance for Denmark.

The content of the horizon scan briefs origin from third party sources and does not reflect the views of neither the OECD nor the Danish Government.

Fact

In 2006, UK Office of Science and Innovations (The British Ministry for Trade and Industry) commissioned a drawing up of a similar horizontal scan similar to the one produced by OECD for The Danish Agency for Science Technology and Innovation.
