The Danish Council for Independent Research’s call is moving
In 2010, most of the grant types offered by the Danish Council for Independent Research have a deadline for submission of proposals on March 1 only. So if you plan to apply for funding next year, pay close attention.
Apply to the Danish Council for Independent Research on March 1, 2010
In 2010, the main deadline for submission of proposals to the Danish Council for Independent Research moves to March 1. For many years, the deadline for most grant types was on September 1, but will now be concentrated in spring. Accordingly, a research project starting e.g. in autumn 2010 or in 2011 must be applied for on March 1, 2010.
The change is primarily due to an increase in the use of external peer reviews by the Danish Council for Independent Research. This has been set in motion in order to make the process of evaluating applications as transparent as possible.
Accordingly, the main deadline for submitting applications moves to the spring, since the application processing time for some grant types will extend beyond the timeframe the Danish Council for Independent Research has previously been able to observe. Another reason for the change is the council’s wish to have the greater part of its means invested in research as quickly as possible.
The greater majority of grant types can be applied for only on March 1, 2010. There are certain exceptions:
Postdoctoral grants and Pregraduate scholarships
Individual postdoctoral grants (throughout all of DFF) and Pregraduate scholarships (FSS) are still going to have two yearly submission deadlines, since it is essential that young researchers are able to progress quickly through their careers.
START
It will still be possible to apply for some grant types at any time. This is true for applications for Preparation of international proposals (START grants), since international calls naturally have different deadlines.
Research stays abroad
The Danish Council for Independent Research | Social Sciences will accept applications for the grant type Research stays abroad at any time, with certain limitations. The Danish Council for Independent Research | Natural Sciences will accept applications for Research stays abroad with submission deadlines on March 1 and September 1, 2010.
Instrument centres
The Danish Council for Independent Research | Natural Sciences will accept applications for the grant type Instrument centres at any time.
Call will be published on December 15, 2009

Only a select few grant types will be open to applications later in the year. The call will also include the new research training program Sapere Aude, which will create new opportunities for the elite of the elite in the world of research.
