International collaboration in the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7)

Research and innovation are essential elements in the creation of growth, prosperity, and welfare. Access to and application of cutting-edge knowledge are competitive parameters to both research institutions and the business community, and that access requires us to focus beyond national borders.

Being competitive on a global scale is a must and a matter of strong international collaboration with leading research and innovation environments.

FP7 - a possibility for many countries

One of the world's largest programmes for international collaboration on research and innovation is the European Union’s 7th Framework Programme for research and technological development (FP7) in which Denmark plays an active role. Despite its geographic origin FP7 is not limited to participants from European countries but includes participation of the majority of the countries in the world.

It is the ambition of the Danish Government that Denmark shall play an active role in enhancing Danish and European collaboration with the global society and not least the BRIC-countries in order to ensure growth and innovative solutions to the grand challenges of the world. FP7 is an important tool not only to collaborate with European research institutions and companies but also to extend our international partnerships beyond the borders of Europe.

Advises from EuroCenter

For more than 20 years EuroCenter at the Danish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education has offered professional advice to Danish research organisations and private companies that wish to participate in European research and innovation programmes. It is the experience of EuroCenter that Danish researchers and private companies are keen collaborators with institutions across Europe. But beyond Europe the potential for collaboration is vast, still containing untapped benefits.

EuroCenter wishes to provide a stepping stone to increasing collaboration between Danish and international scholars and companies. The following outlines the Danish research and innovation landscape, and hopefully the general mapping will point talented research institutions and innovative companies from within as well as outside Europe in the right direction when searching for opportunities with and partners from Danish research and innovation communities.

The Danish research and innovation landscape

International collaboration is essential to the quality of Danish research and innovation. With the ambition of being one of the leading knowledge societies in the world Denmark is dependent on international networks providing the access to cutting edge knowledge regardless of national borders. And the Danish research and innovation landscape is indeed anchored in international partnerships.

The presentation of the Danish research and innovation landscape focuses on the main institutions for research and innovation that are partially or entirely financed by public funds.

These institutions include:
