European Science Foundation

European Science Foundation (ESF) is a European partner association facilitating exchange of information and research political discussions between its 78 member organisations.

The purpose of ESF is:

  • to strengthen the European basic research
  • to provide counselling in relation to research and research politics
  • to strengthen the mobility among researchers in Europe
  • to communicate the possibilities of cooperation in regard to research facilities
  • to organise scientific activities within all scientific disciplines.

The five scientific research councils of The Danish Council for Independent Research (DFF) are all members of ESF. This membership provides Danish researchers with the possibility to participate in European programmes, networks etc.

ESF supports different research activities:

  • Explorative Workshops
  • Forward Looks
  • ESF Research Networking Programmes
  • EUROCORES (ESF Collaborative Research)
  • ESF Research Conferences.

Calls from ESF are posted on the homepage of ESF as well as on the homepages of the scientific research councils.

  • ESF was established in 1974 and has member organisations in 30 countries
  • ESF is an association of 78 member organisations consisting of national funding agencies, research performing agencies, and academies.
  • The Danish members consist of the five scientific research councils, the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters, and the Danish National Research Foundation.
