Danish EU Research Office, DANRO
The Danish EU Research Office (DANRO) represents Danish research in Brussels.
The office was implemented by the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation in 2006 with the purpose of assisting Danish researchers and research organizations in relation to EU’s different research and innovations programmes.
The primary responsibilities of the office are to stay informed about the different research activities taking place in the EU, and also to assist possible applicants to EU’s research based programmes by contacting relevant persons from the Commission. This can both be with a specific project in relation to the corresponding call, and also to inform the Commission about the research interests of potential applicants.
DANRO’s purpose
The purpose of the office is to help, promote, and enhance Danish participation in the European Framework Programme, currently the 7th Framework Programme (FP7), ending in 2013. One of the responsibilities of the office is to obtain knowledge with regard to the development of the different research programmes, by participating in events in Brussels. This location also makes it possible for the office to stay updated with the newest information on relevant issues concerning European research.
The primary responsibilities of the office are the following:
- To gather information by participating in relevant meetings, seminars etc., and to disseminate this information to Danish applicants and Danish research institutions.
- To arrange visits and meetings in Brussels on behalf of Danish researchers, and also to assist with contact to Commission staff with special reference to preparation of applications to the EU’s research and innovations programmes, and other purposes.
- To expand the collaboration with other international and national offices which share DANRO’s priorities.
- To expand and maintain the current collaboration with the EU institutions and the EU representatives.
- To further develop and maintain the collaboration with the Danish universities with regard to arranging visits and introducing the universities and their affiliated researchers to the possibilities within the Framework Programme.
Support to Danish researchers and research oriented organizations
DANRO’s primary task is to provide different types of support to Danish researchers and research organizations. Being located in Brussels, the office has the opportunity to assist Danish researchers and research consortia to contact relevant employees in the Commission (or the different Directorate General), by using the extensive network that the office has established in Brussels.
Through this network the office also has the opportunity to arrange meetings in Brussels with the participation of Commission employees and with other research offices, based in Brussels.
In addition, DANRO has the opportunity to use its network to bring attention to a certain topic by sharing of information and thereby possibly sparking an interest among others as well, i.e. representatives of the Commission. This can be done in collaboration with other Brussels based offices and also by inviting members of the Commission to formal or informal discussions about the topic in question. If there is in fact a common interest, it may result in the topic becoming part of the more formal research agenda.
IGLO, Informal Group of RTD Liaison Offices
The IGLO network (an Informal Group of RTD Liaison Offices) is an informal network of more than 20 Brussels based offices of different nationalities within the research and development area. The network focuses on EU research in general and on EU’s Framework Programme in particular. The purpose of the IGLO network is to facilitate interaction, the sharing of knowledge, and collaboration between the different offices, the national research organizations and the European institutions.
In addition, the IGLO network can be used to share and exchange project ideas with regard to searching for partners for research projects or to gather general information on different research topics.
