Strategic Research in Sustainable Energy and Environment

Funding of strategic research contributing to a sustainable energy system through the development of energy-efficient, intelligent and climate-friendly technologies, capable of reducing greenhouse gas emmissions and dependency on fossil fuels.

The Danish Council for Strategic Research supports research activities within the area of sustainable energy and environment. In 2012 the Council more specifically supports activities within the following themes:

  • Energy and Environment – Energy Systems of the Future ( DKK 177 million)
  • Environmental Technology (DKK 39 million)

The themes are described in more detail in the call and in the guidelines for final applications.

The overall application process

You can apply for grants based on the call text which is published in the 5 March 2012. A two phased application process will then follow. In phase 1 the applications will be assessed by a programme commission, where upon some of the applicants will be invited to submit a final application.

Who can apply?

Phase 1: All Danish and foreign citizens. However, it is required that the supported research activities promote and strengthen Danish research.

Final applications: Applicants from phase 1 who are invited to submit a final application.

Furthermore there are a number of specific requirements for the applications. These requirements are described in more detail in the call or in the guidelines for final applications.

  • Phase 1 applications: Expired
  • Final applications (Only invited final applications may be submitted): 12 September 2012

In the beginning of June 2012 the guidelines for completing the final applications will be published in the menu on the left. They will also be issued directly to the selected applicants.

Call and information meetings

From 5 March 2012 you will be able to find the current call in the menu on the left. On 14 and 21 March 2012 information meetings were held in Copenhagen and Aarhus, respectively. The slides from the meetings can be seen here:

What can be funded?

The grants are relatively large and are mainly given in the form of the instruments centres, alliances or projects, over a long period of time and are typically completed in cooperation with several Danish and foreign institutions and companies.

  • Strategic research centres
  • Strategic research alliances
  • Strategic research projects
  • It appears from the call, which instruments that can be applied for.
