Obligations and rights

The company's obligations and rights for an Industrial PhD

Hiring an Industrial PhD candidate

The company hires the Industrial PhD candidate for the three-year duration of the project as a full-time employee on the ordinary terms for salaried employees. The employment contract must not contain any non-compete clauses limiting possibilities of employment elsewhere. The salary is negotiated between the Industrial PhD candidate and the company, but must at least match the collective agreement on current salaries for PhD students employed by the Danish state.

Questions about this pay rate must be directed to the Department for University Law at the Danish Agency for Universities and Internationalisation.

All of the candidate's work hours must be spent on the project and are to be divided evenly between the university and the company.

Financial reporting

The company must submit financial reporting for the Industrial PhD project for its three-year duration. The reporting can be submitted on a quarterly, semi-annual or annual basis, and subsidy will be paid out subsequently. Please use the form available here:

Auditor's statement

An auditor's statement, verifying that the company is following all rules and proper procedure for subsidies, must be submitted annually. Please use the form here:

Leave

The company can request a leave of absence for the Industrial PhD student from the Agency.

The Agency does not pay out wage subsidy to the company during periods of leave. Pay during leave is determined by the company’s standard rules and practice.

Discontinuing an Industrial PhD project

The company may be required to repay any subsidy received if it breaks off an Industrial PhD education or prevents the planned execution of an Industrial PhD project which the university and the student are still interested in and capable of continuing. On the other hand, the student is obligated to fulfil the research and employment conditions agreed upon in the application.

If an Industrial PhD education is discontinued, the participants must jointly provide a written account for the course of the education and the reasons for its discontinuation. The account must be signed by the company, university and candidate, and must be delivered to DASTI within three months after the date of discontinuation. The deadline for submission can be extended if special circumstances arise.
