An application for the Industrial PhD Programme must contain:

A completed application form (found in the 'application and forms'-section).

A weighted grade point average, calculated in the weighted grade point average-form (found in the 'application and forms'-section).

State of the art: A description of the current international scientific and developmental level in the area of the Industrial PhD project. Approx. 1 page excl. references.

Max. 1 page on the idea and objectives of the project in the following areas: Scientific goals (scientific innovation), developmental aspects (new knowledge for the company and university) and commercial goals (how the project is expected to contribute to the company’s business platform and earnings, which commercial targets and milestones can be identified, including patents, consulting services and licenses, and when they are expected. Whether the company and the university have made an agreement on common patent or licensing rights, sale of consulting services, etc.)

A project description of max. 3-4 pages, comprehensively detailing how the project and research programme is to be carried out, including descriptions of the scientific content and hypothesis of the project, research questions to be investigated, methods to be used, activities to be carried out and how roles are distributed (i.e. what is expected of the university, the company and any third parties with respect to supervision, research teams and similar)

A division of the project into phases, i.e. indicating goals and milestones per semester, participation in PhD courses, business course etc. and information on when the candidate is expected to be at the university, the company and any third party (the parties should aim for an even distribution of the candidate's time)

A specification of planned participation in PhD courses in Denmark and abroad, other courses and conferences, independent study, provisional bibliography and knowledge dissemination.

A provisional plan for studying abroad for more than two months.

A specification of the total division of time between the company, the university and any third parties.
What has to be enclosed with the application?
- CV.
- Diploma.
- Any recommendations/statements and publication lists.
- A weighted grade point average form (found in the ‘application and forms’-section).
- Max. 1 page of detailed information about the company, e.g. work areas, strategic goals, no. of employees with academic degrees, profit and loss accounts for the past 3 years, status for the past financial year, information on financial statements etc.
- If the company is new, information on financing and/or a business plan and a possible exit strategy for the candidate must be enclosed.
- Max. 10 pages describing the company supervisor's career and business experience, emphasizing areas relevant to the project, and including a CV for the company supervisor.
- Max. 1 page with a short description of the department’s academic profile, staff and research strategy in the project area.
- Max. 10 pages describing the university supervisor's scientific fields of expertise, emphasizing areas relevant to the project, and including a CV for the university supervisor.
- If relevant, max. 10 pages with a short description of the third party supervisor's career, business experience and/or scientific fields of expertise, emphasizing areas relevant to the project, and including a CV for the third party supervisor.
