The Industrial PhD Programme
An Industrial PhD project is a three-year industrially focused PhD project where the student is hired by a company and enrolled at a university at the same time.
The company receives a monthly wage subsidy of DKK 14,500 while the university has its expenses for supervising etc. covered. The PhD student works full time on the project and divides his or her time equally between the company and the university.
In 2011, DKK 134 mil. has been allocated for new Industrial PhD projects. Accordingly, it is assumed all qualified applications from the private sector will receive funding. Last year, more than 60 pct. of all applications were approved.
Submitting the business report at CBS.
Industrial PhD students who have taken the business course at CBS, but haven’t submitted their business report yet have to submit before the last deadline which is the 30th of March 2012 at 12.00. The business report should be sent as a PDF-file to Peter Holdt Christensen at and Susanne Andersen at .
It won’t be possible to receive guidance in preparation of the business report. The result of the assessment will be available in the beginning of May.
Approved projects 3. round 2011
Applications submitted for the 26 September 2011 deadline have now been processed. A list of all approved and conditionally approved applications is available here:
European Industrial PhD Programme
EU has established a European Industrial PhD Programme. € 20 mil. have been reserved for the programme on the 7th Framework Programme for research.
A restriction in the Danish Industrial PhD Programme is that the Industrial PhD candidate has to be employed in a Danish division of the company. There is no such requirement in the European programme - but the company and university have to be from two different countries.
Industrial Postdoc
It is now possible to apply for subsidy for Industrial Postdoc projects at the Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation.
Academic reporting is no longer required – be sure to observe the duty to disclose all material facts
It is no longer required to send in academic reporting to the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation (DASTI). The Industrial PhD candidate’s achievement of the PhD degree is documentation for the university's fulfilment of its academic obligations in the Industrial PhD education. After the PhD degree has been issued, the university receives the last 15 pct. of its subsidy.
Companies still have to submit financial reports and auditor’s statements as before.
Please note that DASTI will place increased emphasis on observance of the duty to disclose all material facts from now on. DASTI is to be informed immediately in case of changes in the basis for payment of subsidy. This includes substantial changes in the academic and professional focus of the project, milestones, supervisor changes, interruptions, leave etc. The project can continue if and when DASTI, possibly after first consulting the Industrial PhD Programme Committee, approves the changes.
If the duty to disclose all material facts is not upheld, DASTI may decide to cancel its subsidy and demand repayment of any paid out subsidies.
