SPIR - Strategic Platforms for Innovation and Research

The SPIR initiative has been introduced to make it more attractive for businesses to participate in research and development activities with Danish universities, technological service institutes, other enterprises and innovation agents.

The Danish Council for Strategic Research and The Danish Council for Technology and Innovation in 2011 offered a Strategic Research and Innovation Platform in:

- Intelligent Solutions for Society and Welfare Technology

The aim is to create the foundation for a cooperation model where the industry and business world cooperate with universities etc. in the planning and implementation of research activities.

It is further the intention to create strong international research and innovation fora in Denmark, which will help attract highly qualified candidates to the country.

The hope is to secure at least DKK 120 million for each platform. The Danish Council for Strategic Research and The Danish Council for Technology and Innovation contribute with approx. DKK 70 million, and the other involved parties will be required to finance the remaining DKK 50 million.

The SPIR calls will be announced in the beginning of March. The application process is divided into 2 phases, ending with the announcement of the awarded SPIR at the end of the year.
