Information for members
The Peer Review College is expected to raise the quality of the reviews and to contribute to strengthening the homogeneity of the assessments, as the College will enable the reviewers to build up experience in reviewing research proposals from the Council.
Your task as a reviewer
The reviewer is asked to provide a summary of his or her research area, with which the council can estimate which proposals are within his or her expertise. Additional information is taken from CVs and publications on the internet. The quality of the proposals is judged in a written assessment, using a two-page assessment form. At the present moment, it is decided that no meetings take place in connection with peer review.
Each reviewer can be asked to assess up to five proposals a year, depending on the research themes that are determined to be of political interest. Almost all reviewing is carried out in September and October. The reviewer is asked beforehand whether there is a conflict of interest regarding each proposal. It is expected that panel-members accept their membership on the basis that they are available for reviews. However, reviewers are always asked well in advance whether they are in a position to review, and can turn down the request if necessary.
Why become a member of the Peer Review College?
Becoming a member of the Peer Review College of the Danish Council for Strategic Research can be considered an acknowledgement, since membership is confined to internationally acknowledged researchers. A list of members (and their institution) of the peer review college is published on the website of the council. Apart from this acknowledgement, members of the college may benefit from:
- Insight into some of the most recent research within their field
- Information about calls within the Danish Council for Strategic Research
- Announcing their membership on web site, resume etc.
- A honorarium of 2000 DKK (±268 EUR) for the first
assessment within each call and 1000 DKK (±134 EUR) for any subsequent assessment
The Council expects that members of the Peer Review College will remain members for approximately five years. Members can always withdraw themselves from the membership of the peer review college. It is possible to continue the membership after five years, if both the council and the reviewer wish so.
